I Got Dreadlocks

And it didn't hurt my career

Hey guys,

Jamie here.

Ooooooh, it’s been awhile since I wrote a decent newsletter. I’m not sure if you noticed, but I sure have.

For years I’ve pounded out one newsletter a week. I was a machine. But then I got a weird full-time contract position that took all my time and broke my streak.

I don’t know about you, but I’m driven by streaks. I love a good streak. I have a journaling streak (1,012 days). An AppleMove Ring streak (1,097 days). Eating dark chocolate every day (no official count here, but I’m very consistent!).

Once I broke my newsletter streak my energy plummeted.
I wanted to keep writing to you all, but I didn’t know what direction to write.

So I stopped.

Yikes! I’m fixing that today.

I’ve got to be fully honest with you that I don’t know where this newsletter is going to go. In the past I’ve loved writing about the power of PharmDs, digital creation, and entrepreneurship. I can’t say what I plan to write about in the future.

To me, writing and connecting with you guys is a sacred relationship. You’ve put your trust in me. You’re spending your precious time reading these words from an already overfull inbox. I want to honor that and make your day just a smidge better each time you read my words. Thanks for hanging with me all these years! I’m so glad to know many of you.

I’m at a bit of a crossroads in my career. I don’t know where I’m going from here.
• More prn work in my local pharmacies?
• Bold new entrepreneurial campaign?
• Leaning into paid sponsorships I’ve been experimenting with recently?
• Launch something outside of pharmacy completely
• Or just not working and hanging out with my super cool boys?

Humans have a default setting has been to hide behind-the-scenes until I ā€˜figure it out". I know that is the case, but still have been caught by that snare. I know we figure things out by doing them, not thinking about doing them.

I’m serious about building something I love that really helps a corner of the world. So, I’ve got to get back on the publishing horse. I’d encourage you to do the same. I mean, aren’t we all in a never-ending process of figuring out what in the heck we’re doing with our lives?

I’ll keep these newsletters and LinkedIn posts coming. If you don’t like this kind of thing, please unsubscribe now (bottom of this email). šŸ‘‡šŸ»

And now, if you’re getting to the end wondering when I’m talking about my dreadlocks: well, you’ve arrived.

I got dreadlocks this summer.
I’ve wanted them for months.
You guys, I love them with all my heart.
-they have been so fun to wear
-I don’t have to do my hair each day
-I did what I wanted to do

And they were well received.
I could still be a professional and have my own unique look.
Didn’t hurt my career at all (I think it actually enhanced it)

Anyway, thanks for reading this long. I look forward to sharing (at least for a time) a more chill Jamie who doesn’t have an agenda. Just writing to express myself with the goal of ultimately helping you out.

Hope you have the best day out there!

Jamie

*For those of you wondering the logistics of how dreadlock extensions work just hit reply. Happy to share. They aren’t at all permanent and really fun.
